Peer Reviewers Wanted

The Journal of the North Carolina
Association of Historians

Volume 19 (April 2011) and beyond

The Journal of the North Carolina Association of Historians seeks peer reviewers for the April 2011 issue and beyond.

Blind peer review is an important process in the publication of a scholarly journal. We would like to hear from colleagues who are interested in contributing to the Journal in this vital way.

How Peer Review Works

When a manuscript is submitted that falls within your interests and expertise, you will be contacted and invited to serve as a peer reviewer. Peer review is an anonymous, double-blind process, and your frank professional assessment of the manuscript is expected. You will be given several weeks to read and comment on the manuscript, and then your comments and suggestions for revision will be sent to the author. While authors do not always incorporate every suggestion into their revisions, it is clear that the process of review results in significantly stronger published results.

Timetable for Peer Review

Authors submit manuscripts by October 1 each year. Immediately the manuscripts are sent to peer reviewers. Manuscripts are generally about 20-25 pages in length. Typically peer review should be completed by December 1 so that authors have time to make thoughtful revisions based on the peer review process.

How to Become a Peer Reviewer

If you are interested in serving as a peer reviewer for the Journal, please email Dr. Kathleen Carter, the managing editor, with the following information:

We will keep your information in our files so that when a manuscript is submitted that would be a good match for you, we can contact you easily.

Although it is not required that you become a member of NCAH in order to serve as a peer reviewer, we give preference to current members when making review assignments.
